Solomon's Building Projects and Trade

1 Kings 9:10-28

9
Chapter 9
10 And it was at the end of twenty years in which Solomon built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the house of the king. 11 Hiram king of Tyre provided Solomon with cedar wood and fir wood and gold, as much as he desired. Then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. 12 Hiram went out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, but they were not right in his eyes. 13 He said, "What are these cities that you have given me, my brother?" And he called them the land of Cabul to this day. 14 Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold. 15 This is the account of the tribute that King Solomon raised to build the temple of the LORD, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. 16 Pharaoh king of Egypt went up, captured Gezer, burned it with fire, killed the Canaanites dwelling in the city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife. 17 Solomon built Gezer and Lower Beth-horon. 18 and Baʿalath and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land. 19 and all the cities for his storehouses, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. 20 All the people remaining from the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who are not from the sons of Israel. 21 Their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the Israelites were not able to devote to destruction—these Solomon conscripted for forced labor, as they are to this day. 22 And from the sons of Israel Solomon did not give as servants, for they were men of war and his servants and his chiefs and his eunuchs and chiefs of his chariots and his horsemen. 23 These were the rulers of the overseers who were over the work for Solomon: five hundred and fifty ruling over the people doing the work. 24 Only Pharaoh's daughter went up from the city of David to her house, which he built for her. Then he built the Millo. 25 And Solomon offered three times a year burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar that he had built for the LORD. And he burned incense before the LORD and dedicated the house. 26 And King Solomon made it at Ezion-geber, which is at ships on the lip of the Sea of Reeds in the land of Edom. 27 And Hiram sent his servants in ships—experienced sailors who knew the sea—with Solomon's servants. 28 And they came to Ophir and took from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and they came to King Solomon.
